The Paper Bag Princess

We enjoyed using the characters from The Paper Bag Princess as we listened to the story again, then practiced retelling it!  We were so excited to bring them home for break to share!

We Made Pizza!

After reading The Little Red Hen Makes a Pizza, we made our own yummy pizzas!  They added ingredients to make the dough, kneaded the dough, added sauce, and toppings.

We also used the pizza to introduce the math terms "half" and "fourth"

And the best part was....

Eating it!

Catch Me If You Can!

The leprechaun traps were no use... O'Seamus escaped, but he left some candy for the students to find.  Maybe next year!

They're Back!

O'seamus returned!  We arrived this morning to find all of our chairs in the classroom in complete disarray, upside down!

After listening to Mr. Steven's read The Night Before St. Patrick's Day, we worked hard at creating and constructing leprechaun traps.  We hid them around the room...we will catch that leprechaun!

The Leprechauns!

In preperation for St. Patrick's day, we are reading books about the traditions celebrated on Emerald Isle...Ireland!

Sam's mom, Mrs. Taylor, came to our classroom today to show us how to make tiny hats!  They might even fit a leprechaun.  We are saving them for Friday, to put in our traps.  We are hoping to lure the mischevious leprechaun and keep him from scampering out of our reach!

Junior Achievemment

Jeanette Poe volunteered to help our class with Junior Achievement-- and she had a GREAT first day!  She will teach our class for 4 more sessions.  On Monday, we listened to a story , drew a picture of our favorite animal, and shared them with the class!

Thank you, parents!

We had one hundred percent parent attendance at conferences!  Thank you so much for all of your support!

REF Grant! Thank you!

We were awarded a grant through the Rockford Education Association.  This has allowed us to purchase several hard cover books and book sets in order for us to study illustrations!  Our illustrations have added tone and details to our writing!  In addition, we have built a great deal of stamina during our writing workshop time, as well as our Daily 5, work on writing!

We studied Scaredy Squirrel, by Melanie Watt

Green Eggs and Ham

Today we read Green Eggs and Ham!  Then we tasted them and published a class book!

Special Visitor

Mr. Stevens visited our classroom on Friday to read a book to us!  The book was "Where do Balloons Go?" by Jamie Lee Curtis.  After reading to us, he brought 12 balloons with him for students to release in pairs.
