Friendship Soup
We celebrated Thanksgiving by making friendship soup. First thing in the morning, we each put a bag of chopped veggies from home, into the soup stock that Mrs. Hales had ready. As the soup simmered throughout the day, we enjoyed the wonderful smell. At the end of the day, many of us tried the friendship soup! A few even had seconds! We had a great celebration! Happy Thanksgiving!

Daily 5
Our kindergarten class will be doing a literacy program called Daily 5. Each day, your child will rotate through 5 literacy centers around the room. 3 are independent stations, and 2 stations will work closely with an adult. We just started last week, and we are cementing routines this week!
We always review the rules...
As of this week, we have 10 minutes of stamina!
We gather in the front of the room to see our rotation schedule. Our groups will change weekly!

Pancakes, Pancakes!
Today we learned what chefs and bakers do. We made pancakes! The class used the clues to get them excited...
Then we broke into 3 rotating stations. The first station practiced reading and writing their word wall words.
The second station used playdoh to squish and mold cookies, cupcakes, pizza, or any other imaginary food.
And the last station cooked pancakes! We practiced measuring, scooping, stirring, pouring, and most importantly, following step by step directions.
Then the best part...
We then read a story and used our experiences to connect with the book. Some even used their experiences and started their own pancake book during writing workshop. What a FUN day!

Oral Language in Kindergarten
Mrs. Dean, speech and language specialist, came to talk to our class about using descriptive language. Our goal is to transfer descriptive language into descriptive writing! We used this tool...
It's called the EET. Each color helps us remember...
Then we used this to practice talking about a pizza. Our class came up with so much to say using the EET!
Thank you, Mrs. Dean!
Community Helpers Month
For November, we will be learning about Community Helpers! We invited Officer Bradley from the Rockford Police Department into our classroom to tell us about being a police officer. This is our bubble map we made before he joined us. Look at all the things we knew about police officers!
Hello Officer Bradley! Did you know that all Rockford Policemen are also firemen?
He showed us some of his tools that he wears on his belt and then showed us his bullet proof vest. It has a special plate that protects his heart.
We also got to meet PC the Patrol Car!
Mrs. Thelen, principal at Belmont Elementary, also joined us for Community Helpers month! She told us about how she loves to be around kids, help teachers, and keep us all safe at school.
She also read us a story. We enjoyed all the speech bubbles in the story-- we are learning how to add them in our writing, too!
