A busy day in the undersea world of kindergarten!

We had two very special visitors stop by today! Jordan and Maddie, two of Mrs. Hales' former first graders and Rockford graduates, came to share what they do! Maddie is a student at Eckerd College in Florida, studying Marine Ecology. Jordan is a graduate of Eckerd after studying Marine Biology! Jordan begins a new position next week teaching 'sea camp' on Catalina Island in California! Jordan answered many questions that our class had about marine life!

We made sea creatures with play-do today...

...a sea turtle photographed by Jacob using the iPad!

An octopus photographed by Carsen...

A grey whale photographed by Nicholas...

And a sea star photographed by Leila!

We added shark drawings to our shark book...

We love learning about sharks!

Ocean projects

We completed our study of an ocean animal that we studied! We used text features; Titles, captions labels, drawing/paintings and a few close ups!

We shared one of the most interesting facts that we learned! Did you know that sea tutles have real tears? They really aren't sad, though!

Did you know that a sea horse is a fish?  What happens to a starfish when it loses an arm?

Did you know that a squid has a beak?  What fin helps dolphins, whales and sharks swim?

Some whales have teeth, while others have baleen!  The Orca was the only tooth whale studied!

The whale shark is the largest shark in the ocean!

Yaaarrrrrrr it be PIRATE day!!

I hope you heard all about this day from your little pirate!

At Daily 5, we added "are" to the word wall board, and brushed up on our "ar" word families.

After Daily 5, we watched a fun clip about pirate addition.  You can find that link HERE! We then went on our own pirate addition treasure hunt.

Then, we met Mr. Guy.  He can speak pirate!  He read us a story in his best pirate voice!

Then we taught him the Pirate Dance!

At the end of the day, the class earned a piece of the Pirate Treasure and some fun temporary tattoos. What a FANTASTIC day!

I left the class with one lingering question... We'll discuss this further on Friday!  What do you think?
